Volunteer
Asian Youth Leaders Organization (AYLO) volunteer program is now open. AYLO volunteer program welcomes youth to gain first-hand experience with our community projects in Shangri-La, China.
About Shangri-La
Shangri-La is first described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton. Hilton portrays Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise, particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia – an enduringly happy land, isolated from the world. In the novel, the people who live in Shangri-La are almost immortal, living hundreds of years beyond the normal lifespan and only very slowly aging in appearance.
Shangri-La is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province (China) and the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with a long history and gorgeous natural scenery. It has scenic spots such as Meli Snow Mountain (6740m), Haba Snow Mountain (5396m), Potatson National Park, Dukezong Ancient Town, and Ganden Sumtseling Monastery. Shangri-La is bordered by the city of Lijiang which is famous for its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites and rich tourism resources, such as Lijiang Old Town, Three Parallel Rivers, South China Karst, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5596m), and Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Objective
AYLO volunteer program not only helps local children broaden their horizons and increase their knowledge, but also hopes that the beauty of nature will enable volunteers from all over the world to seek inner peace. Shangri-La's fresh air, clean spring water and organic vegetables & fruits cleanse bodies and purify souls. The ancient culture and life of the Tibetan, Bai people and Nakhi people are full of inspiration and wisdom.
